5. Apple Crisp for Dessert

Shady Maple Apple Crisp

No celebration is complete without dessert, and Shady Maple Farm Market’s selection of locally grown apples is the perfect star for a classic apple crisp.

Ingredients:

  • 7-10 Cortland apples (more if you want it to be more about the fruit, always a good thing; other great baking apples like Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Granny Smith, etc.)
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Vanilla ice cream, to serve

Preheat your oven to 400°F. Melt butter over medium-low heat in a small pan. Peel or slice the apples (depending on how much time you have), then arrange them in a 3-4-quart baking dish. Once the butter is cooled, mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix with your fingers to combine ingredients with the butter. Add flour, rub into the mixture, evenly distribute crumble topping, and then bake for 40-45 minutes.
